Do you want to make reading informational text more exciting? Do your kids find non fiction boring? Are they scared/intimidated by all of the facts?
Well, do we have the unit for you! This Novel Study (turn into group project) was created especially for the Who Was book series to create the highest level of thinking on Bloom’s Taxonomy. Through this novel study, students will read, research, synthesize, and create. It is ideal to have the students broken up into groups, and reading about a different person in each group. Encourage them to add their own research into the novel study. Feel free to add your own touch. Mold this to fit your own class!
Please keep in mind this is not worksheets. Students will not answer questions on sheets of paper, instead they will be creating their own lessons to teach the classroom by following the rubric and gathering information throughout their books. Anyone can write down answers on a sheet, but it is magical to see them create, and teach their centers! (Centers are: timeline, museum, birthday gifts and game) Push the students to become as creative as possible, and to push themselves!
Don't have the Who Was book series? This novel study could be modified to fit ANY biography.
Did we mention that the 4 center rotations are RAN BY THE STUDENTS? That is right! Each day a group will teach the whole class through their slideshow, and then break up into small groups to present their centers. Who doesn't love seeing their students take charge?
