“Editha” by William Dean Howells is an excellent short story written in response to the Spanish American War. Howells deals with gender roles, masculine rhetoric, group think, blind patriotism, and innocence. Although the story is short, it is not heavily anthologized, so sometimes it is difficult to find quality teaching resources to accompany this excellent text. When I couldn’t find the king of high-quality resources I wanted, I made my own. And now I’m sharing them with YOU.
