In my 7th grade class, I introduce a lot more writing to the kids than they have typically seen before. One thing I noticed this year during Writers Workshop is that the kids can be given an Editing Checklist but they don't really know how to use it. Enter, my new Editing Checklist.
Rather than just saying to the kids, "Check your peers' spelling," I've asked them instead, "The easiest way is to read the paper backwards. If you are not reading the paper for ideas, you are more likely to find spelling mistakes. If you are not sure or a word just looks wrong, highlight that word in yellow. Don’t try to fix the spelling for him or her. Let them take care of that!"
I assume the use of the Revision Checklist as well, which I also sell in my TpT Store. Enjoy!
