This editing unit has 3 pages to edit for capitalization and making lower case with information about Oklahoma, and 3 pages to edit spelling mistakes and adding a period with information about giraffes, roadrunners, and koalas. There is a comprehension test with 10 true/false and 10 fill in the blanks, a wordscramble, and a wordsearch. I usually guide my students through the editing process of the sentences and/or give them the number of editing errors for each sentence. I also model rewriting the first sentence with the corrections inserted, and explain that every error they make, even the ones that weren't in the original sentences, will be counted against their grade. I usually take 1 or 2 points off for every mistake - I'm extremely picky about this, especially since the sentence is right there for them to look at. 1 or 2 points doesn't sound like much, but it adds up, and if they aren't careful, their grades can be very low. It usually takes only one lower grade for them to figure it out and take their time and be more careful and do it right. Answer keys are included. I hope this is helpful for you and your students. Have a great year and lots of good luck with state testing!!!
