Mark it Up! Editing & Revising Task Cards for Middle and High School Writing
I developed these task cards to help middle school students with the process of revising and editing. I found that if given a list of directions, the kids did great on the first couple tasks; but then engagement dropped off further down the list. So many kids become overwhelmed by the process. Even with so many great revising and editing printables out there, I just could not find one to meet our specific needs. So, I made one that did.
The 20 cards cover:
Introduction: Attention Grabber and Thesis Statement
Conventions & Mechanics
Voice, Tone, and Style
These are task cards that break all of the revising and editing activities into separate steps. That means that you can teach the tasks separately, or have students work through the tasks as activities that have defined a beginning and end; versus a list that, to some, can seem to go on forever.
I have the colored cards printed on white paper and held together with a binder ring. The tasks can also be cut apart by students and put in their interactive notebooks. I have my students use colored pencils that match the color of each card to complete each task. This provides another visual connection for students to make.
This set includes both color cards and black and white cards.. Due to the variations in printers and papers, some colors may print in a slightly different hue than appears on your screen.
