Using the letters in the word "PRINT", this handout helps students remember the steps for excellent editing any of their written work. "P" stands for "proof-read", encouraging the student to read their work quietly to themselves, listening for awkward words/phrases. "R" stands for "revise", suggesting students use synonyms for repetitiously used words/phrases, remove slang expressions, and rewrite run-on or other poorly written sentences. "I" takes the student to the step of "inserting" adjectives for imagery, an example, similes or personification (etc. literary devices). "N" is the fourth step, instructing the student to "notice" misspelled words, as well as the overall presentation (neatness of hand printing or typing). Finally, "T" stands for "taking time" to read the final draft aloud again and search for any mistakes so that the student's work is the best it can be.
