Use these 200 Common Core aligned, fun facts editing cards to help your students practice proofreading and reinforce editing skills. The cards are divided into 50 motivating subjects; four cards per subject. By using four cards at a time, your students will not only get plenty of editing practice, but will also learn four fun facts about a given topic. A great way to mix editing with informational text!
Please note that each card has exactly three errors for students to correct.
There are also 50 answer key cards; one per subject. One way to store these cards is to keep them in sets of five: the four task cards and the answer key card for each subject. Two student answer sheet formats are also included: a half sheet for just the answers and a whole sheet which also includes room for an illustration.
The cards reinforce a variety of skills including:
-subject verb agreement
-pronoun anticedent agreement
-"a" vs. "an"
-comparative and superlative adjectives
Suggestions for Use:
Use one card at a time with the entire class using a document camera. Select a volunteer to edit the card on the white board.
Leave a subset or the entire set at a center and allow students to work through them at their own pace.
Print in gray scale and use for interactive notebooks. Students can glue the cards in their notebooks, correct directly on the cards using editing marks, and then rewrite the sentences.
Have students work on cards in partners, comparing their sentences before correcting.
Save answer sheets over the course of the year and use them to make a Fun Facts book for students to keep.
All facts were found in the book: 5,000 Facts (About Everything), National Geographic Kids, 2012
