This is an interactive Editing Tool that focuses on basic editing skills and also on more advanced skills. There are 8 steps: Read Aloud, Check for Capitals, Check for Punctuation, Spelling, Organization, Revise, Check for Transitions, and Peer Edit. Some of the steps require a highlighter to mark the editing done.
You can print the file front to back, flip on the long edge and then laminate for students to "mark off" the steps with an Expo marker as they complete them. To help stay organized and have easy access for editing, I get a clear freezer bag and put one of the following into each bag: laminated editing tool, Expo marker, yellow, green, purple highlighters, and a correcting pen. When students need to edit, they grab a bag!
OPTION: Get clear or colored hanging file folder tabs and cut in half. Then glue those tabs to each section of the editing tool and students have to "read through" the clear tab to make sure they are focused on the reading and editing.
