Students will use the CUPS approach to edit their writing. CUPS stands for Capitalization, Understanding, Punctuation, and Spelling / Spacing. This is a fun and easy way for students to check their work. Teachers teach the CUPS editing method first using sentences and then move to using paragraphs. Students write CUPS and check off each letter as they edit their writing. It is that simple and fun. You no longer need a detailed check off sheet to copy every time they write. Instead you have a self monitoring way for students to remember what they need to check for in their writing. The students are now taking ownership of the writing process. This leads to shorter student conferences so teachers can easily fit in individual time with everyone in the class.
