Useful editing marks for teachers of ESL/ELL writers.
Information is divided into three columns: The type of error to fix, an example of the error along with the relevant editing marks, and finally an example of the correction.
This document can be used by both teachers and students in an ESL/ELL/L2 writing class. Peers can use it to mark each others papers, or the teacher can use it when giving written feedback.
The symbols help students learn to identify TYPES of errors and learn from mistakes, rather than simply copying teacher or peer corrections. For the instructor, labeling types of errors rather than correcting and rewriting can also save valuable time.
