This product contains two different worksheet activities for students to analyze ANY editorial. One worksheet focuses more heavily on author's craft and the moves the author makes, and the other worksheet focuses on analyzing the elements of the argument in an editorial piece. A list of editorials from the New York Times have been included for possible use!
These worksheets are great to use with an Article-of-the-Week activity, or when completing an argument analysis or argument writing unit. I have my students analyze editorials as part of the New York Times Learning Section's annual Teen Editorial Contest. These can be done in class or as homework, and a great idea is to have students pair up or group up to discuss their analyses of the same article so they can begin to notice commonalities. A great way to attack several argument-related standards in one assignment! Use over and over again with different editorials throughout the unit or course!
