One thing that I've struggled with is finding time to teach my students how to proofread their own work as well as their peer's work. I've found that having a peer read over their writing has helped my students improve, but I think it is helpful to have a checklist of what they should be looking for.
Here is a checklist for opinion writing. Students are asked various questions and must answer yes or no, if their peer has or does not have the requirement. This is good way to explicitly show what each student needs to add or fix when they are rewriting.
