Things That Could Be Helpful
The purpose of the DO IT! activities are to help students comprehend the meaning of a phrase and its prepositions. The student reads a phrase and then does what it says.
If a phrase says: “the cat is under the table,” the student will first get a picture of a cat from the PICTURE CARDS. Then he will find the picture of a table on the BOARD. The “table” will have slits in it so the student can slip it under.
Hence, “the cat is under the table.”
This applies to other prepositions in the same way.
“in” has two flaps that the student lifts up -so he can put the card “in.”
“under” has two slits in which the student can slip the card “under.”
“on” also has two slits outside the picture – so that the picture can be put “on.”
“with” and “and” are one long slit, so that one card “and” another card can both be together.
The DO IT activities are similar to the Direction Cards activities from the Edmark Reading Program. Each DO IT! set contains two activities.
This is the first time I have created these boards to share. In the past, I’ve just done my own tweaking, cutting a little here, adding some tape there…. In my experience, I’ve had to cut down a little on the “in” flaps on the boards and add thick tape around a couple of places to help the kids in occupational therapy better slip things in.
