Product Description
Build comprehension using these 4 high-interest, nonfiction reading passages that feature one page of informational text and one page of multiple-choice comprehension questions. Topics include the invention of crayons, animal intelligence, education in colonial times, and personality types. The questions include a variety of reading skills and are modeled after the types of questions on standardized reading tests, but with only 3 answer choices. Great for back to school reading!

The thumbnails and preview show the text and question format. The measured reading levels range from 3rd-5th and are "fairly easy to read" or "average" according to the readability indicators. I have 32 years of experience in preparing students for standardized reading testing and in studying these types of tests.

Here is what you get with this resource:
• Crayon Creation informational text and questions (2 pages)
• Critter Comprehension informational text and questions (2 pages)
• Education Evolution informational text and questions (2 pages)
• Personality Power informational text and questions (2 pages)
• Answer Key (1 page)
• TOU & Credits (1 page)

Crayon Creation has a reading level in the upper 4th grade range. Education Evolution is in the lower 5th grade range. Critter Comprehension is in the upper 5th grade range. Personality Power is in the lower 6th grade range. Students are VERY interested in hearing and reading about the 4 types of personalities and trying to identify their main type, so don't be afraid of doing the passage along with your students if you teach a grade lower than 6th!

I would recommend that 3rd and some 4th grade teachers plan on doing these orally with students while modeling good reading strategies. Most 5th and 6th graders who are already familiar with this type of testing format should be able to complete these independently.

As an added critical thinking BONUS, have students explain why they think the title of each reading passage was chosen.

I’d appreciate your purchase, your rating, and your feedback.
