This lab uses Alka-Seltzer tablets and water samples of differing temperatures to demonstrate the effect of temperature on reaction rates.
Students are challenged to use their knowledge of the kinetic molecular theory to discuss why the hotter water caused the Alka Seltzer to react faster.
My labs are straightforward. Some of them are paper labs, but the ones that involve significant laboratory setup or calculations to be made on the part of the teacher are written about in a Teacher Notes section at the end of those particular labs. I use relatively safe and inexpensive chemicals. Of course, safety precautions are always noted at the beginning of the lab.
