After 16 years of teaching special education to gifted students, I have assembled some great tips, techniques, and strategies for a productive classroom environment. The methods presented in this PowerPoint are simple, yet effective. In my experience, a setting that is effectively managed opens the environment to student learning and engagement. A teacher that appropriately manages a class is able to build relationships and work with students to facilitate learning and growth regardless of level or ability.
This slideshow includes 10 different slides with strategies, subtopics, and examples. You can begin using all of these techniques immediately with very little preparation. The techniques are designed for teacher use, but you can share them with students or team teachers.
While it is very effective to begin using these techniques at the beginning of the school year, any time is the right time to structure a positive partnership between students and teachers. In my experience, it is not about the teacher controlling the students. A classroom that is effectively managed includes a mutual respect between students and teachers. When students know what is expected of them each day, they are motivated to work with a teacher who expects the best but will lead the class and maintain a safe, positive setting.
The ideas included in this slideshow focus on different methods for rewarding students, strategies for behavior management, tips for supporting substitutes, methods that establish effective learning environments, and techniques that involve students in their own learning.
If you practice these strategies, they will work even with your most challenging students. Everyone will thrive in an effectively managed classroom!
