Effective Early Reading - The Three Wishes
This book is one of a series designed for more advanced early readers.
These books take a broad approach and contain stories to encourage the practice of reading for pleasure. The same format is used for each of the stories.
Each story is followed in turn by _
(i) a series of comprehension questions. These call for thoughtful responses.
(ii) a vocabulary-expansion exercise
(iii) a crossword. . These often contain an extra clue ( e.g. “This word rhymes with...') to reduce the difficulty. The answer for the crossword for each book will be found at the bottom of each introductory page.
The stories are presented in two formats, color and black line. Color provides a more enjoyable book. Black line, obviously, is much cheaper. The color version could be used to create wall charts or be used to introduce the story to the class using an electronic whiteboard.
Reading the story aloud to the children with this presentation is a great way to encourage the children to read for themselves.
Also color could be used if you are preparing a small number of books for group work. If you wish to prepare books for the whole class, using the black line version allows the bonus of fine motor work for the children as they color the drawings.
The margins are made wider on the left side of odd numbered pages and on the dight side of even numbered pages to allow room for stapling.
Each format of this book consists of covers and four pages of text and illustrations.
It has four worksheet pages
