The activity asks students to contemplate if they would rather live near a volcano that erupts effusively or explosively. The learning activity asks students to first write about the question prompt and back up their claim with evidence. Students then discuss their differing answers as a whole class or smaller group. Lastly, students have a chance to self-reflect and rate their own participation in the discussion. This activity assumes that students already have background knowledge about explosive and effusive eruptions, and asks them to find evidence and apply their knowledge.
