Students will love this lab. It takes 3 days to complete but the results are extreme. The students will be soaking an egg in vinegar to dissolve the egg shell and then moving the shell-less egg into corn syrup. the corn syrup will "suck" the water out of the egg and leave the egg looking shriveled. This will demonstrate the selectively permeable membrane. After the egg is shriveled it will be placed in water and the water will move from an area of high concentration (of water) to an area of low concentration (in the egg).
There are questions to go along with the lab. Students will get a great visual of selectively permeable membrane.
