Read the Room

Spring is here...time to get your little 'chickies' up and moving! Students will 'read the room' to ID the picture's initial sound, record it and then use the recording sheet to 'crack' the mystery code!
Differentiate it for different learners because it comes with blank recording and coding sheets for you to personalize!

Although the pictures are on spring colored eggs, the center/activity can be used all year long!

Use it over a course of a few weeks by making different recording/coding sheets to match what you are working on at that moment!

*Blank Mystery Code Sheets (2 styles) with optional back to program with numbers to create your own word/CVC practice

If students are not ready to use the mystery code, you can simply have them ‘read the room’ to practice initial sound ID (and/or use for ending sound practice too)

Makes a great Word Work center throughout Spring- use it over the course of several weeks by changing your codes and recording sheets!

How To Use:
Print picture cards and laminate.

Tape the cards around the room
(or place in a bag/basket if you prefer a stationary center)

Students walk around with their clipboard and recording sheet
(use a hardcover book to lean on if you don’t have enough clipboards)

Students look at the picture on the egg, find the number that matches the number on the egg card on their recording sheet and write the letter that picture starts with.

Once the recording sheet is filled, students use the recording sheet to ‘crack’ the codes.

You can choose to only place the eggs cards out that match the numbers they will need for the mystery codes or choose to have them do all 26.

Make mystery codes to practice sight words, CVC/CVCe words, vowel patterns, vocabulary words, seasonal words, student names, and so much more! Simply write in the numbers on the blank mystery code worksheets and you are set to go!
