Product Description
Eggbert the Slightly Cracked Egg is a heart-warming story about being different, wanting to fit in, and self-acceptance. It is written by Tom Ross and illustrated by Rex Barron.

I discovered this story a few years back and it has been one of my favorites ever since. I have read it to students up to grade four, and it has elicited tears in many (as well as myself). Although sad in parts it will uplift your spirits in the end. The story is powerful, in that all of us, at some point in our lives have felt like Eggbert, or known someone like Eggbert.

The materials in this package are suitable for students from K-2 with a variety of options to accommodate for different levels of ability in your students. It would be a lovely addition to a Valentine’s Day or Easter unit, building on themes of friendship, forgiveness and new beginnings.

The Story

Rejected by his friends in the refrigerator because of a crack in his shell, Eggbert must find a new place to live. Eggbert uses his painting talents to try to blend into his surroundings and hide the crack in his shell. Unfortunately this doesn’t work out for Eggbert and he is rejected wherever he goes. One day he discovers the world is full of wonderful cracks and things begin to change for him.
