In this lesson, students will learn about the ingenious system of proportions that the Egyptians used to enlarge drawings for wall paintings in tombs and palaces. Students will start with an original Egyptian work of art, which they will enlarge by drawing inside a grid. They will then color the image for a beautiful poster. In my class, I use these drawings as a complement to research papers, and I hang the paper along with the posters. This is a big hit for parent-teacher conferences. It’s a great assignment to go along with a math unit.
The assignment is interdisciplinary, and the materials are thorough.
