“Einstein in My Garden, Photos and Reflections on Bugs” is a book by photographer, ecologist and writer, Penelope Torribio. It originated as examples for writing exercise she had her students do , lower grades through high school. The Instructions are: 1) Take a photo of something in nature. 2.) Research the subject of this photo and tell your audience something true about it. 3) Extend your writing on this subject by using your imagination or sharing a personal response or asking it a question. 4) End with a concluding or universal statement.
As a special education teacher Penelope used this book to help her older students learn to read. They would listen to an audio reading of the reflections while reading the reflections and then try their hand at writing reflections-either orally or on the computer. If you are interested in the audio, which is just Penelope reading the reflections, contact her and she be happy to send the audio version.
