How to Play: El Cuadro
These two bracket challenges can be used to enliven your study of animals in Spanish! Bracket (1) contains animals which are common in early Spanish classes. Bracket (2) has less common animals, perfect for immersion, upper level Spanish, or differentiating for advanced students!
Play as a whole class or in partners. Students vote on their favorite of each pair of animals, and the winner in each group advances until there is a winner. In whole class play, vote by a simple raise of hands, or having students move to each side of the room! To advance language usage, for unknown animals provide images as a guide or ask for volunteers to describe, in Spanish, the unknown animal.
Consider allowing an “undecided” group in the center, and give each side a chance to plead their case!
If you complete both brackets, pit the winners from each against each other for the ultimate challenge!
