Are you looking for a fun and engaging Spanish activity that will have your World Language students practicing multiple language modes? Then you have found it!

This interactive activity is designed to have students using Spanish while practicing their speaking, reading, writing, listening and interpretation skills. Each activity has two student passages with essential questions, unit vocabulary, and a variety of verbs to enhance student comprehension. A student listens as their partner reads sentences from a descriptive passage, writes what he/she hears and then draws photos of the sentences to show understanding. Each student creates 12 unique picture depictions of the descriptions he/she hears from his/her partner that can be shared with the class or evaluated for comprehension and completion. This is a great way for students to study and practice as well as apply vocabulary and verbs they are studying in Spanish.

This two passage activity can be done in 3 different ways: in pairs (completely independently from the teacher), in differentiated groups (with some teacher guidance), or as a whole class (with teacher guidance).

In pairs: Students take turns reading sentences from a passage about unit vocabulary in Spanish. As partner #1 practices reading by sharing a sentence, partner #2 practices interpretive listening and writes down what he/she hears in Spanish or translates to English(your choice). Once both partners have read all 12 sentences, students can work independently to draw and color pictures representing the details they heard about the passage. Student drawings could be reviewed for comprehension by the classroom teacher or partners could evaluate each other’s drawings. Spelling may or may not be factored into the evaluation of writing (your choice).

In differentiated groups: One student reads the sentences of one passage to the group as other students work together to listen, document, draw and color the photos for what they hear based on their collective discussion.

As a whole class: A teacher or an elected student reads the sentences to the whole class at once or could read one a day for 12 days while students write and develop drawings that show their levels of understanding. In this case, the classroom teacher would have 2 passages (Partner #1 and Partner #2).
