This is a 2-page video guide for students to fill out as they learn about Mexican culture. I also put 2 skulls on the guide, one for students to color and one for students to design.
The total time for all 3 videos is about 26 minutes. The video about Papel Picado is about 5:20, Pan Dulce is about 11:40, and Calaveras de Azúcar is 8:30.
My students really enjoy seeing the cultural crafts in action. It also gives them a point of reference for future education about culture and traditions.
I tell my students that they can earn extra credit or replace a quiz grade if they bring in a final product from one of the cultural crafts that they were introduced to from the videos. This also takes the burden off of us creating one of these crafts in the classroom, which can be time consuming, expensive and disappointing to the students that are not artistically inclined.
I like the authenticity of the examples in the videos and the students seem to relate more to these videos, as opposed to a "documentary style" video about the Day of the Dead.
