CSI: Laguna Negra
At the beginning of season 2, we learned that Cayetano was the missing student found D.O.A in the forest. But who is responsible for this sinister act? This is the exact task that students are going to engage into. The CSI Laguna Negra activity helps students to work creatively to speculate as to how he died, identify the major suspects and write a short recommendation on what the police should do.
This activity could be used a review activity to bridge the last episode of season 1 with the first of season 2. Students will have an opportunity to review characters, vocabulary and structures for accomplishing several of the tasks included here.
How to use this resource:
1. Students should watch the first 20 minutes of episode. Here they learn which students has died as chapter 6 leaves off on a suspenseful cliff.
2. Distribute activity sheet to students and have them work through describing the events surrounding his death. With the many mysterious occurrences in El Internado, encourage them to think outside the box and name some suspects. Looking through this lens, Fermín is suspect #1.
3. For the Informe Policiaco, I had my students use the subjunctive to write a recommendation on who investigate and why. They used structures such as “ es necesario que investiguemos muy rápido” and the like when pressuring their “jefe de policía.” However, students who are not comfortable with the subjunctive could use the following grammatical structures:
Usted debe+ infinitive
Usted tiene que +infinitive
