Teaching your Spanish students about the environment or looking to challenge them with a fun activity on Earth Day / El Día de la Tierra? This would be an awesome addition to your unit! First, students will read what they think are two poems in Spanish about the environment. They will come to understand the meaning of the “poems” by working through guided questions for each “stanza.” They will then analyze the grammar used by locating verbs in various tenses. You will then surprise the students by informing them that these “poems” are actually songs by two popular groups: Maná and Shaka y Dres. Students will then be able to watch and hear poetry come to life as they view the music videos for these two songs.
With your download, you will receive the following:
-An EDITABLE student handout with the two poems/songs (click “Preview” above to see more)
-A PowerPoint in both English and Spanish with the guided comprehension questions and grammar questions. You can either project for students to see (and save some paper!) or print out for students to do at home or even on a SUB DAY! The PowerPoint also contains pictures of both music groups for students to see after they learn the true identity of the “authors” and links from YouTube for the music videos.
-A lesson plan with tips and suggestions for how I have used this lesson.
Enjoy!! And make sure to download my MEDIO AMBIENTE FREEBIE
and check out a cool DEFINICIONES/CUESTIONARIO
activity that would be a great complement to this activity!
