5 teachers have bought this product since I put it on TpT in Sept 2015. During the summer of 2014, the front pages of the newspapers were focused on the massive amounts of migrants / refugees from Central America which were streaming across the southern border of the USA. Many of the migrants were unaccompanied children. This issue sparked significant controversy, and much debate as to why these children were coming here, and what we should do about it. Although the issue has quelled, and is no longer on the front pages, the causes for the migration are still alive.
This power point provides an overview as to causes of out-migration from one country in particular: El Salvador. If you don’t know much about El Salvador, I think you’ll be shocked by a lot of the information. For example, during the 1980s, the US gave the government of El Salvador a million dollars per day, a government accused of massive human rights abuses.
I would recommend that before you access this power point that you access my Central America migration crisis power point, which will give you and your students an overview of the crisis. That power point consists of a variety of maps, graphs, charts and lists which will involve students in understanding the crisis, and to ask lots of questions.
Additionally, if you found the El Salvador power point valuable, and want to know more, I’d suggest you access the products on Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica that are in my store. If you have to choose 2 of them, I’d recommend Guatemala and Costa Rica. Then, if need be, access El Salvador and Honduras.
There is a note sheet included which corresponds with the El Salvador power point.
