This is a little printable book written in Spanish about the Sun and the role it plays in the day/night cycle and the Moon phases. It helps students make the connection between both cycles and understand the importance of the Sun in the Earth, Moon, Sun system. It includes bold-faced vocabulary words with a glossary at the end so that teachers can have students practice with nonfiction text features for reference skills. At the bottom of each page, in addition, there is a comprehension question that could easily be discussed in a guided reading group, focusing on the skill of locating the information in the text that is needed to answer the question. Some questions are "right-there" questions while others require students to make inferences.
This book would be perfect for a bilingual classroom, as well as for Spanish-speaking ESOL students who need to learn science content about the Earth, Moon, and Sun. Spanish language classrooms could easily incorporate this book to build on literacy skills!
