CULTURA! El Último Hielero is a 14 minute documentary about a man in Ecuador who struggles to continue the tradition of his family in a world that seems to keep changing. It is visually stunning and a fascinating look into the indigenous life in Chamborazo, Ecuador.
I found this wonderful short film on the Zachary Jones website and he has a great worksheet that goes along with it. I thought it might be too advanced for my elementary school students, so I created this powerpoint to scaffold the lesson and challenge them as well. They LOVED this film and it sparked truly insightful classroom discussion from grades 3-8. There are three sets of activities. One is for very beginner learners and another is a cloze verb conjugating activity with -AR verbs and SER, and the last is present tense and boot verbs for higher level learners. Both have comprehension questions and thought questions. There is also a Venn Diagram for comparing and contrasting as well as reading comprehension questions.
