Product Description
This is an entire weekly unit on El chupacabras - a Hispanic superstition/ folktale. It contains vocabulary, a song,* grammar (object pronouns in the preterit), listening/drawing practice, reading practice, multiple quizzes, and an "advanced activity". The advanced activity is looking at other Hispanic superstitions! :)

*The song for this unit "El Chupacabras” por La Sonora Dinamita is used with more mature students (12th grade). There are certain parts of the song that could be construed as sexual innuendo. My students did not see anything sexual about it. I am not a native speaker, so I am not sure if there is anything there or just a "dirty mind" lol

Included:
- vocabulary list - with 20 vocabulary words and grammar points
- *song lyrics: “El Chupacabras” by La Sonora Dinamita
- powerpoint - with pictures of vocabulary words for practice and bellwork activities
- Watch/listen activity: used videos from YouTube ("caso chupacabras parte 1 y 2") but can just be a review from reading activity
- Drawing activity: students draw a version of the chupacabra and present to partner (instructions on PTP)
- Reading: article about chupacabra with questions to check understanding
- grammar lesson and practice - pronouns in the preterit
- reading and grammar quiz (2 versions + practice for retake)
**- advanced assignment - an independent activity to challenge strong students (other Hispanic superstitions)

Rubrics:
- Each quiz has a rubric at the bottom
- In our class, if a student gets 100% correct on the quiz, he or she receives a B (proficient). The student must complete the advanced assignment in order to get an A. This may seem confusing, but works very well in our classes for differentiation. Feel free to adapt the grading for what is best for your class, though. :)

**The advanced assignment is great for subs or if you need to work with small groups/individual students as it is fully self-directed and builds off what students have already learned with the rest of the unit
