Description

I wanted to teach my students the verb oler, as we were preparing to read Felipe Alou, Chapter 6. In this chapter, Felipe smells a delicious food during several stops on a long bus trip, but he is never given enough time to purchase and eat anything!

I remembered hearing Leslie Davison talk about the very stinky durián fruit that she had eaten while living and teaching in Singapore, so I decided to tell my students all about it!

Feel free to print this for your classroom library or show it to your students. We followed up by discussing foods that smell good/bad as well as what parts of our homes are stinky (hint: boys' bedrooms are stinky!).
