El niño que no sabía jugar by Ana María Matute is a very short story that captivates students attention and leads to great classroom discussions. This activity is used to quickly review the story prior to discussing the story. Students indicate if the statements are true or false and if the statement is false they must rewrite correctly for extra writing practice. Key is provided.
I first like to start with an audio activity. You might also be interested in the listening activity:

Afterwards, students complete the true or false activity as a whole class activity.
To wrap up the lesson, students discuss the story with a partner (pair share activity) then share their discussions with the class.
As a closing activity I review the story with a PPT. You might be interested in the PPT also available at my TPT store:
As a formal assessment I have students respond to open ended questions:
The last question on the assessment students are required to look up mental illnesses to diagnose the child. I usually assign that last one for homework.
