PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Let's face it - word problems can be a drag. But not THESE word problems! Each question in this packet contains realistic scenarios about food and cooking that require students to practice their elapsed time math skills. The problems will also expose your students to a variety of culinary vocabulary terms, cooking techniques and healthy eating habits. The highlight of the lesson is that your students will get to implement their refined problem-solving skills by using them in a cooking activity with relevant elapsed time challenges.

About Elapsed Time:
Elapsed time is the time that has passed from when one event has started. Elapsed time problems can be broken down into three main categories:

- If the start time and end times are known, students can calculate the time it takes to get from start to finish.
- If the start time and activity times are known, students can calculate the ending time.
- If the activity time and ending times are known, students can calculate the start time.

This activity includes problems that are simple and involve only one step. It also includes more challenging multi-step problems that are ideal for more advanced students or students who have already mastered the basic concepts.

This product contains:
A lesson plan with references, recommended tools and organizational strategies
32 non-editable Task Cards or Interactive Notebook cards of elapsed time word problems
Instructions for using the Interactive Notebook approach with these cards
An answer sheet for students (if you are using these as task cards)
An answer key for teachers
A printable recipe for students to bring home
Printable instructions for each cooking station or group of students
A set of four Elapsed Time word problems for students to complete during their cooking activity
