Electing a President is a non-fiction passage with an estimated Lexile level of 900. Teaching students about the Electoral College has never been easier. Students learn about the popular vote vs. the electoral vote and which one determines who the President is. Students learn about who the Electoral College is, how they are elected/chosen, and what their job is. This product includes comprehension questions and four activities.
2 Counting Electoral Vote worksheets- students will count votes, determine the majority winner in each group and distribute electoral votes to determine the winner in a much smaller number scale.
1 Mock Election Activity- students will be divided into groups/states, register to vote, examine two candidates, participate in a popular vote and an electoral vote. Students will determine if the popular vote of their class is elected or if the electoral college vote process changed the outcome.
1 Blank U.S. Map and Table- students will use the table to record the majority winner in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election and then color the map to show the visual of awarded Electoral Votes.
