Authentic math task for the lead-up to Election 2016 or Presidents' Day. Students will use data to discover trends and learn about the ages of US presidents on inauguration day.
This download contains president age sorting strips for each of our 43 presidents. (Cleveland included only once.) Students can cut and sort the strips to help them organize the presidents from youngest to oldest. The activity sheet asks students to use their completed sort to answer questions about the presidents. The final task on the activity sheet (guided calculation of the average age of a US president) may prove challenging for younger students and may be best completed as a whole-class or small-group problem. Answer key for the activity sheet is included.
