Use this fun, student-centered activity to get students engaged with the Election of 1824! Students will read about John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson and then write a stump speech for one candidate.

Let students share their stump speeches, and then host an in-class presidential election for 1824!

Activity includes:

  • Teacher directions
  • Worksheet to give students who are stumping for Andrew Jackson
  • Worksheet to give students who are stumping for John Quincy Adams
  • Page to display when students are sharing stump speeches
  • Page to display when students are voting
  • Ballots to print, cut, and distribute to students

Students will learn about Adams, his platform, and his beliefs. They'll also learn about Jackson, his platform as the "common man", and his beliefs. Let students get creative with their campaign speeches!

I usually use this as a bellringer/starter activity in an American History classes. I love how much my students get into the election! This is a GREAT way to introduce the election that leads to the Corrupt Bargain!
