Students having trouble grasping the electoral college? This game is for you!
This is a hands-on way to teach the electoral college. Students are broken into pairs and given a die and a copy of the map. They roll the die and record the "popular vote" and the electoral votes for each state. They compete until each state has been won by one candidate or the other.
Then, students answer a few reflection and analysis questions. Students quickly see that it is possible to win the popular vote but lose the election! I usually use this game after walking through the steps in the process of the electoral college in our notes.
Even "big kids" love this game!
