My students love reading both fiction and nonfiction books as our class read alouds. I wanted to create comprehension activities for my students to complete as we read Electric Ben by Robert Byrd as part of our Electricity Unit.
This product contains:
*Newspaper Posters (one for each section)
*Writing Lined Paper (one for each section)
*Vocabulary Posters and Answer Keys (one for each section)
*12 Reading Graphic Organizers
*3 Electricity Experiments and Recording Document
How I Used This:
With 98 pages included in the download, there is NO way that I could print the entire product for each of my 32 students. My copy budget wouldn't allow it. What I did do is print out some of the graphic organizers for students to record their findings as we read the book together. I printed off the pages for each section (one per partner pair), and together the kids researched the information in their section to become experts in that area. They defined the specific vocabulary words, and then each student received a writing lined paper of their section to write their summary. To wrap up the comprehension portion, the students presented their "expert" findings to the class. As a class we completed the electricity experiments, and the students worked through the Scientific Process using the included worksheet. I then used the different rubrics to score the students. It saved on copies, but I know my class really understood the information presented...
I hope this helps you as well!
