This activity supports Texas SE 5.6B, It can be used in small group or for independent practice. Students look at examples of simple, series, and parallel circuits. While they are not expected to identify the type of circuit by name, they do have to recognize if the circuit is complete or incomplete and why. They will also demonstrate an understanding of what bulbs would or would not be lit as a result of the circuit as shown. There are 24 cards to be laminated and cut. There are 3 pages to used as mats to sort the cards on. The mats are "all bulbs will light", "some bulbs will light", and "no bulbs will light". I would laminate these as well. Students will sort the cards on to the appropriate mat. There is also a sheet for them to record their answers and give an explanation.
