This inquiry laboratory experience over electromagnets is directly aligned to Next Generation Science Standard MS-PS2-3 (or 07-PS2-3 if you're in Kentucy).

In this lab, students will play around with different materials to discover how to build an electromagnet, how to change its strength, and what it interacts with. They will also compare their designs to others, and answer rigorous analysis questions.

Materials Required:
★ Batteries (good D Cell or Lantern batteries work great)
★ Battery cradles or rubber bands if D batteries
★ Wires (2 types would be best - maybe aluminum and copper)

★ Nails (2 different sizes would be best)
★ Craft sticks
★ Cotton swabs
★ Other ferromagnetic materials (optional)
★ Other non-ferromagnetic materials (optional)
