In this fully editable, competitive activity, students work in teams to create orbital diagrams, write electron configurations, determine valence electrons, identify groups and periods, and craft responses to short answer questions. As they move through the six-part challenge, students deliver their answers to the teacher for scoring. An Excel sheet is provided to act as a live scoreboard that can be displayed using a projector.
The subjects covered in this activity include:
❶ Electron Configurations
❷ Orbital Diagrams
❸ Periodic Table Knowledge
This team competition encourages engagement with the subject matter, as well as cooperation, collaboration, and discussion.
Between debating the correct answers with their teammates and responding to the results on the live scoreboard, my students always have a lot of fun with this activity!
