Give students a real word experience in organizing their own periodic table. The first 30 elements on the periodic table have been disguised with new animal names. Each animal card also lists the properties of that element. In groups, students look at the properties of the different animals and decide how to organize them.
I print 6 animal cards to a page and then cut them out. Once the students are happy with their organization, I have them glue their organized animals cards onto paper, creating their own periodic (animal) table.
This also includes a document where students are required to explain how they organized their animal periodic table.
A rubric is also included for grading their elemental animal periodic tables.
