I love incorporating art history in my art lessons. After my trip to Europe I was inspired to create a European based lesson in all of my elementary classes.
For second grade I decided to introduce them to stain glass windows, specifically the rose window in the Chartres Catherdral and the stain glass in Notre Dame. In the lesson we discuss how art can tell stories through symbolism. The students create their own versions of stain glass with symbolism in them.
This lesson can last one class period or up to 3 depending on how arrange it. This lesson plans includes essential questions, objectives, goals, national art standards, and a checklist for evaluation.
