I love incorporating art history in my art lessons. After my trip to Europe I was inspired to create a European based lesson in all of my elementary classes.
For third grade I decided to take my students to the Vatican City. I showed them images of Rome and Saint Peters Basilica, along with pictures of mosaics. I explain how they are made, and how images often taught lessons back then because so many people couldn't read. The students then create their own mosaics using construction paper.
This PowerPoint includes information on Rome, Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel, and mosaics. Due to copyright laws not all images are included in this powerpoint. However, I have included easy to look up links for you to use to add the pictures.
