A European elementary art lesson for kindergarten, 1st, or 2nd, grade.
I love incorporating art history in my art lessons. After a trip to Europe I was inspired to create a European based unit in my classes kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. This lesson was specifically designed for kindergrten, although it could be taught to 1st or 2nd grade.
For kindergarten I decided to introduce them to France and Italy and the tradition of locking locks to commemorate a love. The students look at a PowerPoint, discuss the countries, the tradition, and how it can apply to art. They then fill in a worksheet with patterns and what they love that they would like to lock away to remember.
This lesson pack includes the big idea, essential questions, goals, objectives, national standards, vocabulary, supply list, step by step instructions to implement the assignment, grading checklist, project examples, 5 lock worksheets, extension ideas, and a PowerPoint.
✴This kindergarton lesson is one part of my elementary art Europe unit. Check out French and Italian themed art lessons for 1st-5th grade below.
