This 5th grade unit was created to encompass several standards from a variety of subjects in an effort to show students how art connects to the world. Starting in Marzano's DQ 2 to introduce the new knowledge and working over the course of the unit to eventually arrive in DQ 4, helping students with cognitively complex task, creates an rigorous environment for your class.
Over the course of 14 weeks, your students will really learn who M.C. Escher was and the impact he had on the art world as well as the connections he made with other subject area. As they learn more about this fascinating artist, they will create artwork using different mediums.
This unit not only teaches students about art, but also the art of thinking. Working on deepening knowledge in art with fun and challenging activities and taking the class even deeper by generating and testing hypothesis helps lay the foundation for critical thinking skills that will help your students be successful life long learners. These lessons can be interchanged between grade levels by simply adjusting the standards.
Doctor Who is my class theme this year, and we are traveling through space and time to visit artists and learn about the different styles throughout history. If this does not work with your classroom feel free to take that part out. :-)
My teaching schedule allows me to see each class once a week. The teaching duration reflects this schedule. Thanks for stopping by my store. Please let me know if you have any questions.
