Third, Fourth Fifth, and Sixth Grade Paper Weave Banner
This is a great banner to celebrate any or all of the holidays: Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. Plus, it can be easily adapted for use in your academic curriculum. In Language Arts, it is a fun and novel way to illustrate creative writing and makes for an innovative book report or author study. In Social Studies, it can be adapted to write and illustrate the details in the life of an historical figure or facts and consequences of an historical event. In Mathematics, the checkerboard arrangement works well in presenting fractional and Mathematical concepts.
I do the banner with my 3rd grade class and they love it. I think it would be equally well received by my 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. I would not recommend it for the younger children because it involves a small amount of weaving which is beyond their capabilities. The nice thing about this project is that it is both appealing and challenging to students of all ability levels in grades 3 through 6.
