This elementary engineering STEM project uses common classroom materials to teach problem solving and critical thinking. The students work in groups to design, build and test a structure made using sentence strips. The students will brainstorm and sketch ideas, build their structure and then test their structure by placing weights such as textbooks on top. The heading categories included for this activity are Introduction, Equipment, Procedure, Design, Predictions, Test Results and Conclusion. The test results section includes 2 formulas to calculate total weight held and structure efficiency.
